Amazingly the electronic carrier pigeon passed the funds across at about 2pm. What a relief. Here we are moving in with the very patient and excellent Sparkford Storage people.
You know that it is going to be an interesting day when, the day before you move into your new house, your solicitor informs you that a footpath runs through your property and that you should not go ahead with the purchase! Apparently the seller's solicitor should have put in for a footpath diversion order some months before. I suppose that we could lay on cream teas for the Ramblers association as they tramps through the property, as will be their right. Just to add to the interest was the fact that our purchase money had been sent by our bank into some sort of electronic equivalent of the pigeon post, 2 days previously, and the pigeon had completely disappeared. As the sending bank had done their job of sending the money, they washed their hands of the problem, and as the receiving bank had no sign of it, they were equally dissinterested. That just left us to fret over a house that we had been due to move into the next day, that our solicitor said don't buy and for which the money had disappeared anyway.
Meanwhile our removals have set off with the furniture. Our Lord has brought me to this point a few times before when He seems to say "Are you going to trust me or aren't you?" Well, I know the answer to that, and so off to sleep. BTW. No picture today as a picture of grey skies and freezing fog is a bit dull isn't it. The good news is that L&M escaped the chaos of Heathrow and got to sunny AUS, today. Happy first wedding anniversary. (Do they have the Internet in Perth?)
It is easy to buy a new mobile phone, relatively easy to buy a PAYG SIM card, but it seems quite difficult to get these to work effectively and at a reasonable price as a laptop modem. Do other mobile computer users find getting the relevant price and other information as difficult as I have found? Having just spent £13 over 2 days and only a few minutes actually on-line using an Orange PAYG card and achieved the downloading of about 5 emails with no attachments, I am becoming wary of the mobile operators. The Orange operative could not tell me the charges, when I registered the card, and the support number he gave me just lead me down a 'keypress dead end'. V unhelpful. T Mobile were helpful but that would require me to pay to get this Nokia N70 phone unlocked. Maybe that is an essential step that I cannot avoid. As an aside, a Treo that I was given with no instructions was a delight to set up and it downloaded emails within minutes of me trying, but I haven't found out how to use it as a modem as yet. Oh well - back to Christmas shopping - this is Winchester high street a few days ago.
Removals have change in the last 20 years. Now a very efficient Sparkford Storage team load things straight into crates for a fork lift to take into storage. We are now 3 hours into the process and apart from the vacuum cleaner failing, we even had a spare, all is going well so far. Even the sun has come out! Oh no - coffee supplies are running out and the car is trapped behind the lorry (slight panic setting in)
